If there is a fair and just God out there, then he wouldn’t let this be a sick joke. Yesterday, on their Facebook page, the Criterion crew posted this image of a possible hint to their next title in the collection.
If you can’t read Japanese, that says Gojira, aka Godzilla. Which would indicate that Criterion is finally moving forward after years of cock teasing with a proper Godzilla DVD release. I. AM. EXCATIC!!!!!!! Now, the official announcements for the next collection go out on September 15th, but they do tend to tease a bit.
So what dose this mean? Could mean a hell of a lot of things. We could be getting a remastered HD version of the original uncut Japanese version. We could get both films on a single DVD much like the Classic Media release a few years back. Either way, we would also be getting a kings ransom of extra features, one of the big things lacking in the Classic Media release. While I give Classic Media props for putting out what they could, there was always room for improvement. To be fare, the other Classic Media Toho releases were nice. But not every film is going to get a Criterion release. So if your going to have just one, it’ s going to be the original. And when you want top of the line, you go Criterion.
I currently own only the Classic Meda copy, which is signed by Haruo Nakajima, but there’s always room for a nice blu ray. Now Criterion, MAKE IS SO!
