Prachya Pinkaew, director of Ong Bak, knew he needed something new when his star Tony Jaa went off on his own to direct. So he found himself a feisty little girl by the name of Jija Yanin. A cute little Thai girl that knew how to beat the crap out of random thugs and do it with style. So, Pinkaew directed a movie starring Yanin called Chocolate. In it, Yanin played a girl with autisim that learned how to beat up thugs by watching Tony Jaa films (but in reality, it was suppose to be Bruce Lee. That’s what you get for not paying for the rights to video people) Here’s a clip to show you some of the awesomeness.

Chocolate was a success, thus launching Yanin as the female face to Thai action films. She then made the so so Raging Phoenix. Sadly, that film was high on action that for some reason, felt lifeless. With Tony Jaa now in self exile, there’s a need for a subtle replacement to keep the Thai action genre alive around the world, and Yanin is the best face to do it.
According to Twitch, she’s going to be re teaming with director Prachya Pinkaew to make Chocolate 2. This time, in 3D. There’s not alot of info at the moment outside the promo art, except that they plan on shooting in Spring. The idea of a muay thai film in 3D is terribly appealing. Even though some of the films to come out of the studio Sahamongkol as of late have been hit and miss, a sequel to Chocolate in 3D could be gangbusters. Especially with the original cast and crew coming back. I await to see elbows and knees coming at me in the big screen.
