Mamoru Oshi, director of Ghost in the Shell, and Sky Crawlers, has been much of an uber director in Japan. One of the few men to dabble in both live action and anime. His Kerberos Saga is the stuff of legend. His latest live action work, Assault Girls, got so much acclaim, that Steven Spielberg himself option the movie for an American remake.
Before that ever comes to pass, the real film, Assault Girls, is getting released by Well Go USA, who have released IP Man and Samurai Princess, have nabbed the rights, and will be releasing this come October. Currently, there are no other specks than what Nippon Cinema has announced: English and Japanese voice track. The film is kind of a side story to Oshi’s Avalon. That movie was about a super RPG that players plug into. This film takes place in the game of Avalon. World building at it’s best.
