Fave 5: UFC PPV Previews

ufc167

With GSP vs Hendricks next week, and that AMAZING PPV ad running, I felt a nice run down of my personal favorite PPV ads would be something fun.  Mind you, none of these are in a particular order.

– UFC 148: Sonnen vs Silva 2:  Possibly the biggest rematch ever, that is until Silva faces Weidman next month.  But what made this ad great was the killer out of character promo that Silva cut on Sonnen a week prior, and built this glorious hype video out of it.  Perfectly summing up why we all wanted to see this fight.

– UFC 139: Henderson vs Rua:  My all time favorite UFC fight.  I had a very strong feeling that this card was going to be the sleeper card of the year.  Guess who was right?  With Henderson and Rua beating the holy fuck out of each other, and Wanderlei Sliva taking on Cung Le in a great fight, 139 delivered on everything people want out of a card.

– UFC 141 Lesnar vs Overeem:  The reason a lot of people didn’t order 139.  What was to be Brock Lesnar’s last fight, was built masterfully as a battle of giants.  As much as I’m not a fan of Overeem, UFC sold this fight great as what could be the human equivalent of The War of the Gargantuas.

– UFC 167: GSP vs Hendricks  Even though this fight isn’t happening till this Saturday, this video is pure unadulterated hype.  And I’ve bought 20lbs of it!

– UFC 147: Sliva vs Franklin 2  This video gave what as a cool fight a very hyper kinetic feel.  The use of Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood was a great way to highlight what a great rematch.

– Bonus:  Strikeforce Tate vs Rousey.  While this is the whole weigh in, the preview at the end was a brilliant hype for 2 relatively unknown women fighters at the time that actually got people to tune into what was a fucking classic.  I expect one of these women to rip the others arm off in the rematch next year.
